Designing for an edtech portal

Code for Life is an Ocado initiative that teaches coding through open-source games. There were 2 games in Code for Life platform but after running usability test with 3 schools on the UK, one of the games (Kurono) was put on pause and replaced by an Python programming course with lesson plans, videos and worksheets.

This Python programming course hub needed a new branding and look & feel and I stepped in to create its branding identity, design system for the Play and Teach pages on the website and the student dashboard. The goal was to make students feel confident and excited when looking at the learning resources so they are engaged and keen to learn.

Ocado non-profite initiative on edtech – Code for life platform. With 2 user segments: teachers and students.

Getting to know the audience

I began with desk research, exploring key questions: What do teens like? Which products and apps capture their attention? What games do they play? What tools do they rely on for entertainment, and what do they turn to for learning?

Some of the process - drafts and references

I used the colour combo from Python programming language but tweaked it to more vibrant tones to appeal better to the audience. And designed a branding and a small design system to start bringing this edtech hub to life.
